With gratitude and fond memories, Elgin Opera’s executive officers and board of directors announce the dissolution of the not-for-profit company. Due to financial constraints and prior obligations beyond its control, the company must fold immediately.
Artistic Director, Susan Dennis and Executive Producer Kimberly Albrecht, are very thankful for the outpouring of community support as well as the generous underwriting from the Illinois Arts Council, Palmer Foundation, City of Elgin, The Pauls Foundation, the First Congregational Church of Elgin, Villa Verone, Eiffel Bistrot and the Channing Elementary PTO, that Elgin Opera has received over the past few years. They are also proud of the successful performing opportunities they have been able to provide to singers of all abilities – from eager elementary school children, to aspiring young singers, to returning area talent - with immense help from regional professional singers and even Metropolitan Opera star William Powers. Since taking over their positions, Dennis and Albrecht have consistently kept all projects and productions “in the black,” with the aid of Office Administrator, Mary Lou Baldwin, Web site manager, Valerie Meachum, accompanists, Dr.Chiayi Lee, Rick Burdsall, Ken McMullen, Rosemary Schroeder, Matthew Gemmill, music and stage directors Josh Jones and Sean Hargadon, Ashley Alverth, costume intern, current board of directors, John Patton, Bill Kowalski, Meghan Smeenge, Nick Bruno, former board chairs Lois Myers-Bauer and Craig Dresang, former Executive Director Kat Dalin, Erin Grych, Steve Walter, Amie Roeder, and innumerable additional singers and volunteers.
Recent productions have included: “Savoir Flaire,” “April in Austria,” “!Ole! La Fuerza de la Musica,” “Opera Fools,” restaurant shows, as well as master classes. The company is also deeply appreciative of Elgin Academy’s gracious accommodations and support of the company’s mission created by Solange Sior to “create and nourish a greater appreciation of the classical vocal arts and to educate through professional performances and community outreach programs.”
Dennis and Albrecht, both lyric coloratura sopranos, look forward to continuing their creative partnership as Bravissimo, a vocal performance organization. Upcoming projects include restaurant appearances and a Christmas show. For more contact
